Repeated exposure to certain substances or skin irritation can lead to dermatitis. If the signs are detected early enough and corrective action is taken then the problem can be reduced or cured completely. However if left untreated then the dermatitis can become irreversible and exposure to even a small amount of the problem substance can trigger a bad reaction.
Note: Solvents can increase the damage caused by these other sensitisers.
Everwell Occuaptional Health offers a UK wide on-site skin surveillance service. This service is fully compliant with the Health Surveillance requirements of the COSHH regulations for products labelled R43 — ”may cause sensitisation by skin contact”.
The skin checks are conducted by an Occupational Health Nurse and typically take 10-15 minutes per person. This includes a review of a questionnaire (to be completed by each individual beforehand), the examination itself and advice on skin care.
