Workplace Spirometry Tests

(lung-function testing / pulmonary testing)

Everwell offers an on-site spirometry testing service or, as it is often called, lung-function testing or pulmonary testing.  Everwell’s service is fully compliant with the statutory Health Surveillance requirements of the COSHH regulations for substances identified as respiratory sensitisers.

Substances that can cause Occupational Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)  or Occupational Asthma normally trigger a Health Surveillance requirement.  Examples are:

Occupational Asthma

· Isocyanates

· Welding Fumes

· Dust and other Airborne Particulates (including Wood Dust)

· Paints / Adhesives/ Resins

· Glutaraledehyde

· Latex

· Soldering Flux

Lung Disease / COPD

· Asbestos

· Silica Dust / Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS)

· Ceramic Fibre

Note: This is not a complete list and you should refer to the latest COSHH regulations / assessments.

Everwell’s process typically takes circa 15 minutes per person.  This includes a review of a questionnaire (to be completed by each individual), the test itself and an explanation of the results.  The test is relatively straight forward, after quick instructions on how to “blow correctly”, the subject is simply asked to blow into the spirometer.  The test may be repeated a couple of times to ensure results are consistent.  Any person failing the tests or showing a marked reduction from the last results will be referred onward to a Doctor.

This is one of a number of HSE/COSHH compliant medicals that Everwell can perform on your site (see Health Surveillance).  For more information contact us today.
